Nightmare in Badham County DVD Movie
Nightmare in Badham County (1976)
Nightmare in Badham County came out in 1976. One of the best things about these early `70's films is that you never know who will show up! Nightmare features one of strangest casts ever assembled for a sexpoitation flick; Deborah Raffin and Lynne Moody (E/R and Knots Landing) play the innocent college girls, Chuck Connors (The Rifleman) plays the evil Sheriff, Tina Louise (best known as the beautiful Ginger from Gilligan's Island) plays the female in charge of the prisoners, Lana Wood (best known as the infamous Plenty O'Toole in James Bond's Diamonds are Forever) plays a prisoner, Fionnula Flanagan (Waking Ned Devine) plays a prisoner, Brady Bunch dad Robert Reed is the warden; and Della Reese (a full 18 years before she started playing Tess in the hit TV series Touched by an Angel plays a prisoner! Now that is a line up! This delightfully sordid women's prison film has a pair of co-eds traveling through a small town, where they are arrested by a sleazy sheriff and sent to a work-farm. The usual sadistic goings-on result, including rape, murder, white slavery, and coerced lesbianism. The reason that so many "legitimate" actors and actresses appear in this film is because it was originally produced for American broadcast television. Simultaneously in true B movie mentality, while they had everybody on the set, the filmmakers shot additional scenes containing nudity, rape and sleeze for a European theatrical-release! The film's success in China was so substantial that star Deborah Raffin became the unofficial ambassador from Hollywood to China; she arranged meetings between Hollywood luminaries and Chinese leaders and filmmakers to get Chinese films distributed in America and American films released in China. Moreover, Raffin was nominated for an Emmy for her performance in the picture. This is the page for the Vidmark Entertainment 100 minute theatrical release rated R.
